Aim

The aim of the Food Geographies Working Group of the RGS-IBG is to bring together geographers who study all aspects of food, from across the breadth of geography’s sub-disciplines, and to raise the profile of geography as a key voice in food related research, policy, knowledge and action. More specifically the Food Geographies Working Group will:

  • stimulate and develop a critical debate about food within and beyond geography
  • provide an intellectual home for the wide range of food-related research being conducted by geographers
  • encourage the study of geographies of food across the sub-disciplines of geography (including but not restricted to social, cultural, physical, historical, and economic geography) through, for example, offering a prize for the best undergraduate dissertation relating to food matters
  • foster dialogue and engagement and promote collaboration between geographers, policy makers, activists and other relevant stakeholders interested in the geographies of food through the organisation of events
  • support research and teaching related to the geographies of food through initiating publications, maintaining the web and social media presence and through the organisation and sponsorship of conference sessions
